Refund & Returns Policy

Thank you for shopping with Lawson Handcrafts. Each of our pieces is individually hand-turned and one-of-a-kind. Because of the unique nature of our work, we ask that you please read the following policy carefully before placing your order.
1. Order Accuracy & Item Condition
Please review your order details (product, finish, shipping address) at checkout. Once your order has shipped, refunds or changes may be limited.
All products are inspected and packed carefully in our workshop in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
2. Returns & Refunds — When Allowed
Due to the unique nature of our inventory, we accept returns only under the following conditions:
A. Damaged or Defective Items
If your piece arrives in damaged condition (for example, cracked in transit) or has a visible manufacturing defect (e.g., a broken stem, unstable base) not noted at time of sale — we will gladly issue a refund, repair, or replacement subject to agreement.
- You must notify us within 7 calendar days of delivery.
- Retain all original packaging and parts.
- Send us photos of the damage, the product at its installed location, the box and packaging labels.
- Upon approval, we will provide a prepaid return shipping label (U.S. only). Once we receive the item and confirm the issue, we will issue a refund of the purchase price (less original shipping cost, if any).
B. Wrong Item Shipped
If we make an error (ship the wrong item, or wrong finish), we will cover return shipping and either send the correct item or issue a refund.
3. Returns Not Accepted
We cannot accept returns or offer refunds under these conditions:
- Change of mind / buyer’s remorse / “just don’t like it.”
- Damage caused by misuse, negligence, accident, or exposure to elements beyond normal indoor use.
- Natural wear and changes (such as wood color shifts over time, small growth cracks, or surface checking) — these are inherent in hand-turned wood items.
- Customized or commissioned pieces made to buyer’s specifications.
4. Partial Refunds / Restocking Fees
In rare cases where a return is accepted but the product shows signs of use beyond inspection (such as being displayed without packaging or removed from its original stand), we may apply a partial refund minus a 15% restocking fee, or propose a repair-only option.
5. Shipping for Returns
- Domestic U.S. returns: once approved, we provide a prepaid label. Please use the original packaging or equivalent protective packaging.
- International returns: shipping costs and import/customs duties are the buyer’s responsibility unless the error was ours.
- Refunds on returns will be processed within 5 business days of our receipt and inspection of the returned item.
6. Faulty After Use
If a structural issue (such as a shift in joinery or significant defect) becomes evident within 30 days of delivery, please contact us. We will evaluate on a case-by-case basis and may offer repair, replacement, or partial refund.
7. Cancellation
If you place an order and need to cancel before shipping, please contact us immediately. We will refund your purchase price in full. Once an item has shipped, cancellation must follow our Returns & Refunds terms above.
8. Modifications & Custom Pieces
For any piece made to your specifications (wood type, size, collar, finish), we cannot accept returns unless there is a defect or we shipped the wrong item. Please contact us before placing any custom order so we can discuss expectations.
9. Legal Limitation of Liability
Our liability in returning or refunding any product shall be limited exclusively to the purchase price of the item. We shall not be liable for incidental, consequential, or loss-of-use damages. In the event of a dispute, the laws of the State of Kentucky shall govern, and venue shall be in Franklin County, Kentucky.
